Launched under the name Mary Cook in East Albany (now Rensselaer), New York, in 1863, USS Narcissus was a steam tug with a storied history. After surviving the Battle of Mobile Bay, she was sunk at her mooring by a mine in 1864. At the end of the Civil War, after lengthy repairs, the tug was on her way home when she was lost with all hands off Egmont Key, Florida, in January of 1866.
